The Internet: My Life

If you know me, you know that the internet is my life. Ok, maybe you didn't know that. Maybe you don't know me at all. Well let's change that a little bit. Ever since 2009, I have been very internet savvy. You can just put it that way. I'm on Twitter, Facebook, but especially YouTube. My last post was about a viral video! I tend to put the internet first, because that's what I love. It really is a passionate hobby of mine.

YouTube came to me in 2009. I was on www.youtube.com at least 4 times a week. Then as I got older, I started to stray from "fat kid fail" videos, and I became more interested in YouTube Partnership. I realized that there were people out there getting paid to make good, quality videos on the internet. This fascinated me. At first I only found people like shaycarl and Shane Dawson. But then I really started branching out. My subscriptions went from 5-10 of my friends, to over 90. All YouTube Partners. I really liked discovering entertaining people.

I will delve more on my personal, slightly emotional story in later blogs, but for now I'm just going to talk about the community effect YouTube had on me. I found quickly that when you were commenting with other people, those people were just like you. You shared a common interest with them. You liked that video and so did they. I started to feel not alone. It was a community. A community built on the internet. As of now, I am part of many communities such as, CTFxC, the SHAYTARDS, and the Nerdfighter community. If you are completely lost on those names, don't worry. I'll explain soon enough.

I felt with this community, there was power. We could make something trend on Twitter. We could get the video to the front page of YouTube. We had the power to do that because we were all passionate about the community we were apart of. We all wanted something great to come out of it.

I also felt like we were exclusive as a community. I felt that we were all participating in some big, inside joke. We all knew each other. We were all in touch. We could live across the globe from each other. We could speak different languages, but we all were closely intact. Nothing could bring us apart as a group. We were invincible.

YouTube became a safe-haven for me very quickly. I could come there and know I was with people who cared about me. I was apart from the rest of the world except for them. It was comforting to know that. But more of that will come later. Probably near the end of May next year, as I end my 8th grade year.

Now, I don't mean to be all sappy and be like "GROUP HUG!" on my second blog. But I thought I would give you a little insight to the biggest part of my life. Just so when I talk about in the future (which I will, indefinitely) you won't be as confused.

I'm also glad we did this because you were able to read it. I didn't have to explain anything in long detail.   I say that because it is so hard to explain this whole YouTube thing when you happen to mention it. If you are really into YouTube Partnerships and stuff like that, then you know exactly what I'm talking about. How you quickly try to explain how this fat, bearded, man on the internet films everyday of his life and puts it on YouTube. And then you desperately try to explain how you do have a life, it's just that you like watching them everyday. Yeah? Anybody out there knowing what I'm saying?

If you are a hardcore YouTuber, like myself, then you probably know about CosmicPanda. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, again don't worry, that blog will come fairly soon actually. For you who know what I'm talking about, I will be making a blog shortly about my opinions, and a spec guide of CosmicPanda. I will also be wrapping up some of my favorite memes of the year fairly soon, as the year of 2011 is coming to a fast close.

Keep On Gingering,
Rachael The Ginger

  2. By the way, I'm glad you found a safe island amid the sea of trolls and idiots that is the Internet. I actually thought of this while reading your post yesterday, but couldn't remember what I said when it was actually time to comment.
